The 1858 Remington, a solid-frame design that was both elegant and reliable, was the prevailing choice of the military officers in the Civil War.

The 1858 Remington New Army is a six-shot, .44 caliber revolver with a case hardened forged frame and  steel backstrap. The barrel is 5 1/2" and the trigger guard is brass. 2-piece walnut grips and dovetail front blade sights. Overall length is 11.1" and weight is 2.5 pounds.
