US Shell Jacket - M1833 Dragoon |
|
This shell jacket was used by Dragoons from 1833 through 1850, including during the Mexican War time period. Prior to 1846, the Dragoons were the mounted service until a new branch of service was created, the Mounted Rifles. Both were re-designated as the "Cavalry" branch of service in 1861. This shell jacket is made from 20 oz Federal (Navy) blue wool, is lined with muslin, and has an inside pocket. The jacket has a 12 button front of US Eagle 5/8" buttons. The jacket has 2 button functional cuffs, 2 buttons on each side of the standing collar, epaulettes, 2 front pockets, and optional saber belt bolsters (pillows) on the back. The collar trim has double rows of yellow tape. The collar, epaulettes, sleeve, front edge, bottom, and back seams of the jacket are trimmed 3/8" yellow tape. The optional bolsters were set at the bottom of the rear/side seams and were designed to 'bolster' the weight of a saber belt which carried the pistol and saber of a mounted soldier. The mounted services jackets are typically longer than most other Civil War shell jackets as the belt needed ride above the bolsters. Please allow AT MINIMUM 8-14+ weeks for delivery. Proudly MADE IN USA in the Great State of Idaho. |
